During the pandemic, we began our free mentoring program which provides ongoing weekly support via zoom. The women meet as a group for two hours weekly, and then follow up individually throughout the week to address specific issues to them. We have seen tremendous results from the mentoring program along with the individual one-on-one services provided, all voluntary services.

After five years of serving the women without significant funding, we believe it is time to transition into a physical location: “The House of Refuge”, where we can provide more tangible ongoing support to more women. Many of the women who face depression, anxiety and domestic abuse cases tend to need community. So we believe the transition to a physical facility would greatly improve the women’s emotional, physical and social health.

This facility will also have a few rooms that will be used as emergency shelter (respite care) for some of the women we have served who were homeless at one point. So many issues arose during the pandemic that proved the need for such a facility, truly a place of refuge for the women in need. We have served women and their children in several ways, this will just expand our program.

To sustain this facility, we look to partner with the food bank of America, in having storage of food to support the women who need food.

We will also partner with mental health providers within the community and refer the women who need a higher level of care.

We need funding to acquire such a property where we can hold our meetings, workshops, retreats, trainings and conferences. We will expand our programming to include more parenting skills training, social support, and career building initiatives for the women. Th women come to us with several needs. By training, we are able to provide support, even career support changing the income bracket of some of the women who participated in career training with us. We support many other with resume building and interview skills. This truly will be a one stop shop for women dating with DV, anxiety, depression, career assistance, addiction etc.
